Field Day at Strong Featured
At this month's town meeting, we were excited to present two humanoid robots to the Strong community! The Nao robots have many exciting capabilities, and will offer our students the opportunity to work on computer coding. We also announced a naming contest for them. Parents, teachers, and of course, students are invited to submit their ideas.

We are thrilled and honored to receive a National Magnet School of Distinction Award in recognition of all the hard work and dedication our entire school community has shown in transforming our building into an engaging and stimulating 21st century communications magnet school. While we are proud of this accomplishment, we recognize that this is the beginning of our continued journey towards excellence. Great job all!
Allison Stoutland, the author of children's books such as "Reach for the Sky," "Take a Deep Breath," "Put Your Best Foot Forward," and "What Can I Do Today" visited Strong to discuss her writing with students. She met with each grade level to describe her journey as an author, and how she finds inspiration to write in every day things. She finished each assembly by reading one of her books. Thank you for visiting Mrs. Stoutland!

Imagine a world where everyone can read…
On February 24th, students, teachers, and staff members will be celebrating World Read Aloud Day by reading aloud in our classrooms and taking action on behalf of the 793 million people who cannot read. By sharing stories, we build a literacy community and grow strong as readers. On this day, continue the celebration at home by reading aloud with your loved ones.
The 2016 New Haven Public Schools School Choice Season is upon us! If you are interested in joining the family at Strong 21st Century Communications Magnet School, please join us for one of our two open houses: Tuesday, February 23rd from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM and Wednesday, February 24th from 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM.
Contact Brian Gilbert () or Susan Bonanno () if you are interested in a separate date.
At our January Town Meeting, first graders from Mrs. Cappiello's class presented work from their unit on animal communication. They created a game show that involved matching the animal with their appropriate communication technique. Students from the crowd got to participate in the game and try to make a match. There was lots of laughing, cheering, and learning from the crowd. Great job first graders!
Miss Ovalles's Kindergarteners are studying how weather forecasts help us to make good decisions about what to do, what to wear, and where to go. To show their learning, they performed a fashion show wearing clothing appropriate for the different seasons of the year. They put on this show for the whole school at our January Town Meeting.
Our third graders are working on a unit that involves communicating through song and dance. They have studied various musicians, analyzed song lyrics, and studied dancers and different forms of dance. They created newsletters that show their findings. Great job third graders!
Our fourth graders have been hard at work building alarm circuits while in our Discovery Lab. Mr. Ward, our STEM teacher, has collaborated with classroom teachers to show Strong students how electrical circuits work. Here, some of our students are gaining hands-on experience with electrical circuits by building an alarm with a functioning switch.
